Participation in the Children’s Section
This year, 49 Books will be present at the 2025 Gothenburg International Book Fair with a special focus on children’s literature. The Gothenburg Book Fair is the largest cultural event in Northern Europe and one of the biggest book fairs in Europe, with over 80,000 visitors, 800 participants, and 300 conferences. It is a key event for both the public and professionals in the book industry. This will be our second participation in the fair, and the very first official appearance of our Children’s Section—a unique opportunity to present our works and to build networks with publishers, authors, illustrators, and children’s literature professionals from all over the world.

International Programs
We had previously planned to participate in the Frankfurt Book Fair, as we did last year. However, due to the high cost of exhibition rental, we decided to postpone our participation until next year. We are now preparing and carefully planning for this global event in 2026.

Children’s Literature Training Courses
To strengthen our professional foundation and prepare more effectively for international participation, since the beginning of 2025 we have been conducting training courses in Kurdish children’s literature.
• So far, three rounds have been successfully held, with the third course now reaching its final days.
• The fourth round will begin on October 1, focusing on writing imaginative stories for children.
• More than 30 Kurdish writers and artists have participated in these courses and have been trained for professional engagement.
Hano – A Children’s Magazine, Another of Our Creations
One of the most important achievements of 49 Books has been the publication of Hano magazine, of which four issues have already been released. This magazine presents stories, games, and poems accompanied by diverse illustrations from creative artists, designed especially for children. It has already found a special place among families and those interested in children’s literature. Our participation in Gothenburg will be an opportunity to introduce this young magazine to an international audience.
Our Vision and Goals for Participation in the Fair
Our presence at the Gothenburg Book Fair will be an opportunity to:
• Showcase the strengths of Kurdish children’s literature to a global audience.
• Build relationships with international publishers, authors, and illustrators.
• Demonstrate that Kurdish children’s literature carries cultural richness and universal values.
Our aim is to prove that Kurdish children’s literature can hold a valuable place internationally and to present it as an essential and meaningful part of world literature.
